Welcome to my website! I am Mukesh Makwana, a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Neuroscience and Carney Institute for Brain Science at Brown University.
My research interests center around understanding various aspects of human and animal cognition, including time perception, sense of agency, and action. I am particularly interested in how these cognitive processes are influenced by factors such as intention, attention, emotion, prediction, group membership, religious context, social context, sports-based training, meditation, addiction, consciousness, human cooperation, fairness, and brain-computer interface (BCI).
My research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented at esteemed international conferences. I was fortunate to have received few awards along my academic journey, including the AVA Tom Troscianko Award, Vision Science Society Travel Award, Jacobs Foundation Travel Awards for promoting Diversity and Inclusion, and recently Zimmerman Innovation Award in Brain Science with Carlos-Vargas-Irwin and Joo-Hyun Song.
I am passionate about using cognitive science to understand the factors affecting human perception, behavior, and choices, and try to apply those findings to help improve people's lives.
I am committed to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in my research program. I am also excited to collaborate with other researchers to advance our understanding of human and animal cognition. I invite you to explore my website and learn more about my research. I am always looking for new opportunities to collaborate and share my work with the world.
Thank you for stopping by !
